CROHN’S DISEASE AWARENESS

Hello and welcome to this year's Escape the Rock wrestling tournament!

My name is Kayli Annemarie Silimperi, I am 14 years old and in the 9th grade. Coach Brad is my cousin and I love him for helping me and other people suffering with Crohn’s or Colitis disease. The day before my 14th birthday I underwent a colonoscopy and an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy. Hence, I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I had never heard of this before and needless to say was and still am very scared; however, as my dad says, whatever does not kill me will make me stronger. So I will "never give up". I know many wrestlers use these phrases for motivation. I just earned my Junior Black Belt in Kenpo Karate, participate in dance, take all honors level courses, and pretty much try to do everything any other teenager does. Crohn’s is part of who I am now. It does not control me - I will learn to control it. In the meantime, I am committed to helping spread the word and perhaps one day be part of the team that finally cures this disease.
