MUSICAL INSTRUMENT

WEBQUEST

Fifth Grade

Introduction

Everyone loves music! You will have the opportunity to learn about an instrument that you are curious about. You will gather information and listen to music files. After taking notes using the EZ Notecard Creator to learn about the history, description, composer or performer or musical work  for your instrument, you will type your information into a PowerPoint slide which will be saved as a jPeg picture.  This will be  inserted into a group MovieMaker project. Your group will share a finished multimedia project with your class.

The Task

Start your WebQuest by searching the web links to look and listen to musical instruments from the following families: the strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion. You will choose to join a group researching one of the following:  flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, violin, percussion or piano. Write your name on a post it note and put the note on one of the posters on the board in the library. You will research one of the following topics: history of the instrument, description of the instrument, a performer, a composer, or a musical work featuring the instrument.
When you know the instrument you will be learning about, find information using books, posters, databases, encyclopedias and the websites listed below. Different members of the group will be responsible for different parts of your project. When you find information, copy the web address or works cited into the EZ Notecard Creator.  Select information from two sources and take notes using  EZ Notecard Creator. You should have at least two sources of two different types. With your group, you will create a project complete with text, sounds and pictures. You may even record yourself or a friend playing the instrument using a camera or a microphone.
