Sixth Grade Wonder Wall Project
 April - June 2009

Sixth grade students will form into groups of 4
  • each group will have a digital camera
  • each group will have a laptop computer and a microphone
Each group will be assigned to interview pre-selected students from other classrooms in the school during their library period 12:15 -12:30 visits
  • Students will discuss questioning and look at the Jamie McKenzie tool box to learn types of  questions. (How, what, why questions) http://fno.org/oct97/question.html
  • Interview scripts will be written collaboratively and will be rehearsed  out loud to the other members of the group.(Sixth graders should create a questionaire before they leave the library to interview the children.)
  • Groups will interview younger children to ask what they wonder about  - sample items could include:
    • What are you curious about? (snakes, dinosaurs, knights??)
    • What do you want to learn about?
    • Using Destiny in the library, what key words would you look up to find a book that would help you learn?
    • When searching online databases and web pages, what could you hope to find?
  • Sixth graders will record movies of the younger children telling what they are curious about. They will  have a practice session before the actual  recording with the camera or microphone.
  • Sixth graders will record the interview between the sixth grader and the younger child
  • Sixth graders may use Audacity to record asking the question and the response
Group members will save their movies, pictures and audio clips in a folder in the S drive.  They will  create a moviemaker project.
  • Include photos and movies of the  younger children
  • Include audio clips
  • Create new music using Garage Band on the Macintosh computer to use as  an introduction or go to SFS kids and create music in http://www.sfskids.org/templates/musicLabF.asp?pageid=14
  • Locate books in the library collection and insert the cover into the movie maker
  • try Animoto to upload pictures
  • Create a Wordle
  • learn to print screen shots of a computer screen of a successful web search that helps answer the student question; paste the screen shot to a powerpoint slide and save the slide as a jPeg. Insert into the moviemaker.
On a second visit with the younger children, share books or online content to the child to show them how they can find answers to their questions.
  • document with more pictures, movies and audio clips
  • Insert these into the movie maker
  • experiment with Smart Notebook drawing tools to make transition or title slides
