Standards-Based Curriculum

The Council Rock School District Curriculum is framed around academic standards. Academic standards provide targets for learning, a focus for developing new ways to organize curriculum,  instruction, and assessment, communicate shared expectations for learning , and provide a common language for talking about teaching and learning. The standards-based approach represents a shift from identifying and teaching what is to be covered to a verification of a student's learning of identified core concepts and skills. Content Standards define the knowledge and skills essential to each discipline. They define what students should know, understand, and be able to do and provide specific targets for what must be learned in school.

Performance Standards specify "how good is good enough". These standards specify the expected quality of work and gauge the degree to which the content standards have been attained. Performance standards are criterion- referenced. This means that student achievement is measured in relation to established competencies, not in relation to each other.

The Council Rock Board of School Directors adopted the Council Rock Standards for all curriculum areas. Specific information about these standards is available using the subject areas links.  The learning targets for the Council Rock School District Curriculum are based on
content standards categories. Click on the link to review those categories.
