The Orchestra is 98-member strong and will be busy preparing great music for a number of performances this year. Our members are part of a dedicated, fun, and hard-working group who have learned and grown together into an amazing ensemble. The Council Rock community is extremely proud and supportive of our entire music program K-12 and are particularly impressed with our orchestra students! The group will be performing at our school for the annual Winter and Spring Concerts and Orchestra Festival, plus will be heard at many venues outside CR South including the Oxford Valley Barnes and Noble, Ocean City Music Pier, the Pennsbury Orchestra Festival, and at Dorney Park! Previous performances have included 3 performances at the PMEA (Pennsylvania Music Educators Association) Conference in 2006, 2009, and 2012, and 3 overseas performances in Scotland (2003), Italy (2007), and France and Monaco (2011). The CRSO has also performed at the Cherry Blossom Festival (2012), with the Philadelphia Orchestra (2009), at a Phillies Game (2011), in Baltimore's Symphony Hall (2005), and at the White House (2011 and 2012). Our pieces for this year include:

Sleigh Ride....................................................................Anderson
The Moldau ....................................................................Smetana
March to the Scaffold (from "Symphonie Fantastique") ....Berlioz
Carmen Suite #1...................................................................Bizet

The Orchestra performed on March 31 at the Cherry Blossom Festival at the foot of the Washington Monument at an outdoor theater (Sylvan). After many anxious days and hours of watching an uncertain weather forecast, we performed for a great crowd with partly sunny skies and mid-60 degree temps! The orchestra members were awesome all day - thanks for a fun event! Here are pics of the performance on photobucket:

The Council Rock South Music Department and the Golden Wings Theater Company combined their efforts to put on an amazing production of "Phantom of the Opera" on March 8, 9, 10. The students put on an incredible performance. To view some pictures of the Pit Orchestra, click on the photobucket link. Thanks to Celestine McDonald for making the Masquerade Masks! http://s1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc396/christophersimon/Phantom%20of%20the%20Opera%20March%2010%202012/
