The Council Rock South Chess Club meets on Tuesday and Thursday of every week in room 222 from 2:30 to 4pm. Players of all levels gather to play, socialize, enjoy, learn, and improve.
From late October through March we field a team of five players and up to five reserves to play other schools in the Lower Bucks County Scholastic Chess League (lbcscl.webs.com), which is made up of 24 schools in Bucks, Philadelphia, and Montgomery counties.
Following a defeat in the championship game in March 2017, in the following (2017-18) school year the Golden Hawks Chess Team went undefeated (50-0) in the regular season and won the league championship for the first time. The team then defended its victory as the #1 team in the region with a victory in the championship match vs Pennsbury in the 2018-2019.
Our competitive season culminates in the Pennsylvania State Scholastic Championship in the first weekend of March. This tournament attracts over 1000 scholastic players from all corners of the state for two days of chess. Additionally we attend exterrnal tournaments through the year and through the summer.
Again, players of all levels, including beginners, are welcome. Some attendees become strong competitive tournament players. Some come on Tuesday and Thursday to play and enjoy the company of the friends they have in the club. Please come see if you are interested in playing chess!
