                                                                           August 2020

    Dear Sixth Grade Student,

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Todd and I am pleased to introduce myself to you as your sixth grade teacher.  I hope that you are having a fantastic summer vacation!  I have been having a super summer swimming in our pool, running in Tyler State Park, kayaking with my husband and my stepdaughter, Abbie, and of course playing with my German Shepherd, Buddy!  I love taking time to read for pleasure in the summer; and boy did I have a lot of time to read this summer!  When I'm not reading, I might be found listening (and singing and dancing) to my favorite country music!  I’d like to take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and what you have to look forward to this year.

I love being a teacher at Hillcrest Elementary School!  I love coming to school each and everyday!  I can hardly believe that this will be my 23rd year of teaching! (My how time flies!)  I taught middle school for several years prior to coming to Council Rock where I have enjoyed teaching everything from first grade to sixth grade to gifted.  I am always aspiring to bring the most current in teaching practices into my classroom.  I look forward to ensuring that you have a successful (and fun) sixth grade year!

Your sixth grade year will be filled with many wonderful experiences and challenging learning opportunities.  Our classroom will be student centered, and you will be the focus of each and every day.  I believe strongly in cooperative education and in the notion that students fully understand objectives only when they can explain their answers and teach the information to others.  I will do anything in my power to help you accomplish your goals in sixth grade.  If you need extra help after school or at recess (clinic), please let me know, so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Please be sure to check out the supply list posted on Hillcrest's website.  I’d also like you to take a few minutes to take the “Getting to Know You” survey that I have posted on my site, and post a message or two (or more) on the 2020 Summer Memories and Back to School Blog.  I hope you share the same amount of excitement as I do for this upcoming school year.  Please enjoy the rest of your summer, and I look forward to meeting you on the first day of school, Tuesday, September 8th!

    Mrs. Todd
