• Helpful hints for helping your child be the best they can be!
     

    The following list contains a number of ideas for your consideration as you support your child’s learning at home. In addition to these tips, use the websites listed on Newtown Elementary's home page.
     
     
    • Create a learning environment for study or quiet work and that is equipped with good lighting, a flat surface, and materials such as rulers, pens, pencils, a dictionary, calculator, and other resources.
    • Encourage reading for 10-20 minutes every day. Talk about their books.
    • Visit the public library and book stores together. 
    • Play games and puzzles together; you will help to support the development of problem-solving strategies and reasoning skills.
    • Encourage imagination and creativity  with drawings, diagrams, paintings, murals, and dioramas
    • Physical activity is imperative for the development of a healthy mind. Make sure that your child gets at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day.
    • Use mathematical computations in real-life situations, ie shopping.
    • Discuss the importance of good citizenship. Demonstrate good citizenship by example. Furthermore, support our school effort to foster cooperation, respect, responsibility, and sportsmanship
    • Ask your child what he or she learned each day. Let this be the focus of one of your dinner table conversations.
    • Limit time on the tv, computer, cell phone, and/or video games 
    • Visit Council Rock's curriculum-based websites.
