Dear Third Grade Parents,
I recognize the significance of a birthday in a child’s life and the desire children have to celebrate that special day in school. In the past children celebrated birthdays by bringing a sweet snack for the class. Since Newtown Elementary is a peanut/nut-free school, I am asking that you do not send food of any type for your child's birthday.
Instead the birthday child is encouraged to "treat" the class to a "birthday book" (wrapped in paper if you wish) for the classroom library. This book becomes a permanent part of the classroom library and the birthday child is recognized by a bookplate inside the cover. The donated book can be a favorite of the birthday child or reflect his/her special interests.
In addition, the birthday child’s parents are invited to visit on the child’s birthday to read the book to the class and sing “Happy Birthday” with us.
As per our school policy, NO birthday invitations may be distributed at school at any time, even if you are planning to invite every student in the class. Thanks in advance for your cooperation regarding this matter.
