*Please note that all of the steps listed below should be repeated two to three times while taking a walk through the book to properly determine which type of books is being previewed.
Am I reading a“vacation” book?
ü Preview the front and back cover of the book.
ü Take a walk through the book.
ü Have I read this book before?
ü Have I read about the character before?
ü When I open my hand and place my fingers on the page, can I read all five words that my fingers touch?
ü If I can read every word or make only one mistake, then this book is a vacation book.
Am I reading a
“just right” book?ü Preview the front and back cover of the book.
ü Take a walk through the book.
ü Read the first page of the book.
ü When I open my hand and place my fingers on the page, can I read all five words that my fingers touch?
ü If I can read four or five words correctly out of five total words then this book might be too easy.
ü If I can read two or three words correctly out of five total words, then this book is “just right” for me.
If I can read only one
