• Hello Fifth Graders and Families!
I hope your summer is going well and that you are having tons of fun!  I can't wait to hear all about it!  Mr. Taragna, Perry (our son who will be in sixth grade this year) and I have been busy!  We went on a lot of hikes and bike rides.  The highlight of our summer was visiting California where were explored San Francisco and Yosemite National Park.  In San Francisco, we visited a lot of places such as Alcatraz, Coit Tower, Lombard Street (the crookedest street in America) and the Golden Gate Bridge.  We also went to nearby Muir Woods and walked among the giant redwood trees.  At Yosemite, we went hiking, saw many beautiful rock formations like El Capitan and domes like Half Dome, as well as beautiful waterfalls such as Yosemite Falls, Bridalveil Falls, Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls.  Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in America!
We also went to one of our favorite places:  the beach!  I love collecting sea glass and placing stranded horseshoe crabs back into the ocean.
I really love bison!  They are huge and fun to watch.  Believe it or not, they can run really fast!  We even have a bison class mascot named Lakota from South Dakota! I took this bison picture when we went to Yellowstone two summers ago.
I have been teaching at Maureen M. Welch since the school opened in 2000.  It is a great place to be!  Also, you may have heard that I enjoy running.  After completing my 15th full marathon in 2017, I decided to retire from marathoning.  I still like to compete in shorter races and I love running 5Ks with Perry!
Reading is something else I love to do.  When I get my hands on a good book, I can't put it down!
Soon it will be time to return to Maureen M. Welch.  I'm looking forward to seeing all of the D-7 Fifth Graders! If you have a chance, please send me a short e-mail about yourself! :) You can send it to mtaragna@crsd.org.  Enjoy the rest of the summer!

         Love, Mrs. Taragna
