    ¡ Bienvenidos a la clase de español 4 !   Este año continuarás tus estudios de la lengua ( el idioma ) española, por el repaso de los conceptos que aprendiste los años pasados, además de aprender nuevos conceptos y estructuras gramaticales. You will increase your skill level en español,in the areas of listening, speaking, reading andwriting, and you will be assessed in all of these areas.

     

    La clase de español 4 utiliza el programa <<Destinos>>. Destinos está adaptado del concepto de una televenovela hispana. Vas a ver uno o dos episodios cada semana y vas a aprender el vocabulario y la gramática en esta manera. Spanish 4 class utilizes the program “Destinos”. Destinos is adapted from the concept of a Hispanic soap opera. You will see an episode (or 2) each week and you are going to learn the vocabulary and the grammar in this way. ¡¡ Es muy emocionante,sí !! J

    Es muy importante ver los episodios....en clase tenemos tiempo para verlos solamente una vez..pero tú puedes verlos en el internet a casa...y te recomiendo verlos a casa muchas veces....es la mejor manera de escuchar y aprender.It is very important to see the episodes...in class we have time to see them only once...but you can see them on the internet at home...and I recommend you see them many times...it is the best way to listen and learn.

    PLEASE REFER TO THIS WEBSITE...IT IS A WONDERFUL RESOURCE FOR YOU TO NOT ONLY VIEW AND RE-VIEW THE EPISODIOS, BUT ALSO HAS INTERACTIVE EXERCISES RELATING TO THE VOCABULARY, CONTENT AND GRAMMAR.

     

    SUPPLIES

    Come to class prepared everyday. Your readiness is part of your participation grade.

    1. Textbook ( Your textbook will stay in class ) You may bring it home at any time, however the workbook will be what you bring back and forth to class each day.
    2. Workbook... COVERED . The workbook is a soft cover.....It MUST be covered, preferably with a brown paper bag/wrapping.   YOU WILL NOT WRITE IN THE WORKBOOK, SO YOU WILL NEED A NOTEBOOK TO KEEP ALL OF THE WRITTEN WORK.
    3. Notebook / Binder / Folder (for Spanish only) …You will be receiving many hand-outs as well as your notes.
    4. Pens or pencils

     

    ATTENDANCE

                Please be aware of the ten-day absence rule. Si you are absent more than 10 days without a medical excuse, your credit may be denied. Be sure to read (leer) your student HANDBOOK carefully. YOU are responsible for making up missed work. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to find out any missed homework / class notes from a class partner (pareja) or friend (amigo/a) or from Sra. Pezzicara. Daily homework assignments must be made up within 1 day of your return to school, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Tú tienes the same amount of days to make up work as your absence. If you are absent ONLY the day before a quiz/test and return to school the day of the quiz/test; you will be expected to take the assessment with the class.

     

    LATENESS TO CLASS

                You are expected to be in class and ready for instruction when the bell rings! If you are late, you MUST have valid, signed note. Lateness will result in a teacher detention, then office referrals.

    PASSES I will not give out lavatory ( los servicios/el baño) passes during class except in the case of an emergency. Please use the servicios on your way to class, or arrive early and check in with me to get a pass.

    As per the Student Handbook, cell phones are to be TURNED OFF and put away in your book bags during school. If, I see you texting/using your phone, there is NO WARNING...the phone will be taken and be given to your grade level principal with an office referral. You will collect your phone (and detention) at the grade level principal’s office at the end of the school day.

                                                   

    ASSESSMENT & GRADES ( NOTAS)

    Remember that you are in a level 4 Spanish class. You should therefore respond to questions and use Spanish as much as possible during most of the class. Vamos a hablar en español en clase !!

      

    CLASS PARTICIPATION* = 30%

    • A (90-100%): Student is consistently attentive, respectful, and prepared for class.                     Student participates enthusiastically. Student always uses as much español as possible all the time.
    • B (80-89%): Student is usually attentive, respectful, and prepared for class. Usually uses Spanish in class

    • C (70-79%): Student is at times passive and inattentive in class. Contributions are minimal. Student is at times prepared. Student may not be prepared daily and not focused.

    • D (60-69%): Student is passive and inattentive more than 50% of the time. Student is rarely prepared. Student may be disruptive or discourteous.

    • F (below 60%): Student is always passive and inattentive. Student is never prepared for class. Student is uncooperative.

     

     

    TESTS, QUIZZES & PROJECTS = 50%

           There will be quizzes intermittently throughout various episodios. Quizzes may be written, oral or listening. Tests… Los examanes J will incorporate a few episodes, depending upon the content of the vocabulary and grammar. There will be some projects during the year.

     

    HOMEWORK ( LA TAREA ) = 20%

           Homework is a course requirement.   Tú tienes que hacer homework every night in order to review what has been taught in class. Homework is more than “filling in the blanks”…you must constantly review and study !! NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR CREDIT. HOMEWORK MUST BE COMPETE… THERE IS NO PARTIAL CREDIT.

     

    GRADING SCALE

              This grading scale will be followed. There will be no “rounding” of grades. Please do not ask……

     

    98% - 100%        A+                    88% - 89%         B+                     78% - 79%         C+                   68% - 69%         D+

    93% - 97 %        A                      83% - 87%         B                      73% - 77%         C                      63% - 67%         D

    90% - 92 %        A-                     80% - 82%         B-                     70% - 72%         C-                     60% - 62%         D-

                                                                                                                      

    EXTRA CREDIT

                There is no extra credit offered in this course. Tú tienes que hacer all of your work to the best of your ability, study, and participate in class….you WILL be successful!

     

    CHEATING/PLAGIARSM

    Anyone caught cheating / plagiarizing/ using online internet translators !! will receive an automatic zero for that assignment or assessment. I will notify guidance and a parent of the incident.

     

    EXTRA HELP/CLINIC

     

    I will be available for extra help during clinic times, los martes y los jueves, después de school until 3:00 pm. If these days do not work for you, see me so that we can set up amutually convenienttime.  

              IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU RECEIVE HELP BEFORE MOVING ON TO THE NEXT CONCEPT ! PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS IN CLASS AND COME TO CLINIC. DO NOT ALLOW YOURSELF TO FALL BEHIND.

              Free student tutoring is also available through National Honor Society (NHS). Check when the start date is. Time is Thursdays from 7-9 pm. in the biblioteca here at South! You can also request a tutor from Spanish Honor Society ( Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica). There are many resources available!
