Results of the test conducted on Tuesday, December 4th:
Student test. A call was place to all the phone numbers listed for each student (in some cases as many as six separate phone numbers). Duplicate numbers were removed prior to the calls being made. A total of two attempts were made to each number.
43,249 calls were made over a six hour time frame.
13,530 calls were answered by a human.
9,374 calls were answered by an answering machine.
374 calls received no answer.
303 calls received busy signals – both times call attempts were made.
2 calls were answered by FAX lines
356 phone numbers were considered invalid. This means that when the call was placed, either there was no ring, or a special message from the phone company – such as “all circuits are busy”, or “your call can not be completed as dialed” – was received.
Lessons learned: The number of lines dedicated to making the calls was not sufficient. Six hours was far too long to place all the calls. This will be modified for the next test. Additional test may occur to contact just home phone numbers.
Staff test. A call was placed to each staff member, at the number they indicated was their preferred number to call. This was the second test for the staff. A total of two attempts was made for each staff member.
1,654 calls were made over a forty-minute time frame.
888 calls were answered by a human.
612 calls were answered by an answering machine.
9 calls received no answer.
6 calls received a busy signal – both times call attempts were made.
11 calls were considered invalid.
