My name is Yana Gorbachinsky and I would like to tell you about myself and my goals for the incoming sixth graders, Class of 2027.
I am entering my fourteenth year of teaching. I am proud to share that I earned my Integrative STEM Ed. K-12 certification in August of 2020. In 2014, I received my Master’s degree from The University of Pennsylvania in Reading, Writing, and Literacy. Prior to graduate school, I taught internationally: two years at a private international school in Italy and then four years in Singapore, which boasts one of the best educational systems in the world. Once back in the States, I was drawn to the Council Rock School district, where I had received my elementary, middle and high school education. I taught for two years at Newtown Elementary, then Rolling Hills, and am now pleased to be entering my fourth year at Sol Feinstone. In addition to traveling and teaching, I am passionate about reading, CrossFit, and dogs.
My goal for this year is to create a space in which each person is welcomed and nurtured as their whole self, and to which they can bring their curiosity, worries, laments, hopes, and ambitions in the midst of these trying times. Sixth grade is a tumultuous chapter in a young person’s development, and now it’s coinciding with huge upheavals in our world. My teaching will prioritize not only students’ academic knowledge, but also the social and emotional skills we will all need to survive and thrive in a quickly changing reality. Together, we will navigate through the myriad intellectual, social, and emotional changes that sixth grade brings, as we strive to have an engaging and enlightening year.
I look forward to partnering with you as we embark on your child’s final year of elementary school.
