Dear Third Graders,
Welcome to third grade! I am glad that you are in my class. I hope that you are as excited as I am about this year.
What have you been doing this summer? I’ve been busy doing many fun things with my family. We have been to the beach in New Jersey and went to the Outer Banks. Try to think of a few things about your summer that you would like to share with the class when you come back. On the first day, please bring one small item that shows what you did this summer. (Examples: seashell, Mickey Mouse pin, postcard, swim goggles, Phillies ticket, etc.) Please also bring a photograph that shows something fun about your summer.
This year will be a fun one for us. We will begin the year by getting to know oneanother. You will learn the third grade routine and your responsibilities for this year. Each day will begin with Morning Meeting. We will start reading and writing the very first day. Third grade is full of many fun events and activities.
On our first day (Tuesday, September 3rd) and every day, come right to our classroom when you arrive at school. You will have gym on your first day so please bring or pack sneakers. Please pack a healthy snack each day. Also, please ask your parents to save the date of September 3rd (the first day!) for Back to School Night, a time when teachers will share many more details about third grade. Don’t forget to bring your labeled supplies to the meet and greet or on the first day.
Enjoy the last few days of summer! If you want to get started on third grade learning, practice your math addition and subtraction facts. It won’t be long before we start multiplication. Make sure you know your student ID number.
I can’t wait to get to know you when the school year starts!
Your new teacher,
