The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania has an exciting opportunity for your students this summer.
Organized by Knowledge@Wharton High School (KWHS), the Global Young Leaders Academy (GYLA) is a rigorous summer program focusing on business and finance for a select group of U.S. and international high school students in grades 9-12. For the past four years, more than 500 students from some 45 countries have attended the GYLA. During the two-week experience, students learn from Wharton faculty and spend time in smaller groups exploring new concepts and ideas. They enjoy residential activities, field trips, campus tours and the chance to build lasting relationships with a diverse and international group of classmates. We encourage you to explore all that GYLA has to offer here.
This summer, GYLA is expanding on the success of its existing entrepreneurship sessions by designing a dynamic new finance program, which features the balance of challenging academics and fun activities that has become a signature of the KWHS Global Young Leaders Academy.
GYLA-Finance will deliver financial education from many perspectives, starting with basic concepts like the time value of money and compound interest, and leading into corporate finance, ethics and investment decision-making. Students will buy and sell securities on Wharton’s Online Trading & Investment Simulator — using real-world market data without risking real money — and develop and deliver a team-based investment project. In addition to deepening students’ finance knowledge, GYLA-Finance is a great preparation for the KWHS Investment Competition, a free, team-based competition that annually engages thousands of students from across the globe. Whether they choose to pursue this competition or not, they will emerge from their two weeks at GYLA more financially literate and confident to make better decisions about how to manage money and navigate the world of corporate finance.
