Dear CR Parent / Guardian –

I am excited to inform you that Council Rock has adopted a learning management system for grades 7-12 and will begin introducing it to students this academic year. Commonly referred to as an LMS, a Learning Management System is a dynamic online platform that houses course content, assignments, and grades. In essence, it is a one-stop-shop, students use for all of their courses. Widely utilized at the post-secondary level and also in work settings, we want our students to understand how to harness the power of an LMS. The LMS Council Rock has adopted is named Canvas and will be rolled out over a two-year period with full implementation occurring in 2021-2022.

In the course of our two-year transition, Council Rock middle and high school teachers will create courses in Canvas. Students will learn how to manage their Canvas homepages and settings, submit assignments, and communicate within the platform. By the start of the 2021-2022 school year, Canvas will replace all classroom websites and Google classrooms and serve as the single location for 7-12 Grade students to access all of their course information. Canvas student accounts have been created. Middle and high school students will be given platform access directions from their teachers

It’s important to know that Canvas will NOT replace the Home Access Center (HAC). Parents will still be able to access HAC to view grades but will also be able to do so through Canvas. Please click on the following link to view directions for accessing Canvas and setting your account notifications.  CANVAS PARENT ACCESS DIRECTION SHEET

Parent/guardian questions concerning Canvas access and set-up should be sent to HAC support at HACSupport@crsd.org.

We are excited to make this transition to Canvas. I thank you in advance for your patience as teachers work to build courses in our new LMS and learn the many features of the platform.

    Thank You –

    Dr. Sue Elliott

Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning
