Our Community
Our community offers a vibrant place to work for our over 1100 employees.
The district covers 72 square miles and is comprised of five municipalities: Newtown Borough and the Townships of Newtown, Northampton, Upper Makefield, and Wrightstown. With streets filled with shops and restaurants and historical sites in plenty, there is always something to see and do in Bucks County.
Newtown, the home of the administrative center of the Council Rock School District, was founded in 1684 by William Penn. Just a short drive away in Washington Crossing, you can see where George Washington crossed the Delaware River on Christmas night in 1776 at the Washington Crossing Historic Park. If you enjoy the outdoors, you can take a trip to Shady Brook Farm, one the largest family-friendly farms in Bucks County that offers pumpkin picking, hayrides and spectacular holiday lights display each year. Fitness and outdoor enthusists will enjoy beautiful Tyler State Park with its 25 miles of trails, biking, horseback riding, fishing, boating, sledding, or just for taking a break in nature. Council Rock staff are known to run, walk and bike on these paths which a short walk or drive from many of our schol locations.
In downtown Newtown, you can find the oldest movie theater in the United States, the Newtown Theatre. Another great location to view beautiful arts displays is at the Hicks Art Center Gallery at Bucks County Community College in Newtown.
There are restaurants and shopping shops in abundance in our district. At the recently expanded, Newtown Shopping Center, you can find an array of stores, restaurants and even a large indoor famers' market filled with tasty and novelty treats.
