Monitoring & Filtering At Home
Parents and guardians frequently ask how they or the district can control student Chromebook usage at home, including using specialized monitoring software. Per the CR device user agreement, installation of any unauthorized applications and extensions, no matter the purpose, is prohibited. And while the Technology Department understands the concerns of many parents regarding screen time at home, there is little the district is prepared to do to mitigate this issue - in the name of privacy and security for families at home.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to reach out to their internet service provider to see what tools are offered to assist them; many ISPs are now providing families with the ability to shut down internet access for particular users and devices and put that access up on a schedule (more information below). For more savvy users, a personal device - where monitoring and screen time management software CAN be installed - can also be used; my suggestion would be to create a separate Chrome profile for their student's CRSD account. Just be sure ALL users know how to switch between profiles!
