Secondary Education
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Student Learning
Council Rock School District focuses on teaching and learning, which provides our students with a well-rounded and comprehensive education. All curricular areas use state and nationally recognized standards to develop rigorous programs of study for students in kindergarten through twelfth grades.
For general information about state standards, please go to the Pennsylvania Standards Aligned System and search under the standards tab. You will be able to search by subject area and grade level.
For more information on specific curricular areas, please select the appropriate curricular area under district curriculum on the left of this page. Here you will find contact information for the curriculum coordinator, an overview of curriculum, core resources, and a list of special events.
Teacher Learning
Council Rock staff participate in ongoing professional development to refine their instructional practices and knowledge to help all students succeed. From workshops to job-embedded learning, staff increase their understanding of best practices.
PLCs
At Council Rock, we continue our work to become a Professional Learning Community (PLC). As a PLC, we commit to engaging as collaborative teams focused on answering four critical questions about learning: What is most essential for students to learn? How will we know when they have learned it? How will we respond when they have not learned? How will we respond when they already know it? By engaging as collaborative teams, we empower our teachers to work as teams to ensure all students reach high levels of learning.
If you are interested in learning more about professional learning communities, please go to www.allthingsplc.info to learn how schools across the United States use PLCs to support student and teacher learning.
Technology
Council Rock School District is a 1:1 district with a device for every student in kindergarten through twelfth grades. Students use Chromebooks as one of many instructional tools to support their learning. Staff and students have access to several digital resources, which support teaching and learning.
Elementary teachers and students utilize Google Classroom to support teaching and learning. Secondary teachers and students utilize Canvas as the Learning Management System (LMS). Secondary students will find all of their courses in Canvas.
Our technology integration specialists continue to support teachers and students at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Our technology specialists will model, coach, and support teachers and students with the use of technology as a tool to support learning.
