Welcome to a wonderful year in kindergarten! I am thrilled to be your child's kindergarten teacher. This is truly an awesome year!
In kindergarten, your child will learn letters, the sounds of the letters and how to write them. We will also learn how to use the letters to begin our reading and writing journey. During the year the children will learn about concepts of print (where to start to read on a page, which way to read, where you go after reading one line, locating the front and the back of the book). Through sight words, decodable books, and reading groups you will see your child begin to read as we practice at school.
We will also explore our senses and seeds through our two science units. In Social Studies we will talk about maps, long ago and today as well as American symbols. Math time will be focused on learning numbers (0-100), patterns, shapes, measuring, ten frames, and subitizing through hands on activities!
Socially, the children will have time to play at recess, play in the classroom which we will call choice time, and begin to learn about feelings they have as well as noticing feelings others have through a program called "Second Step".
I enjoy watching the children grow academically and socially during the course of the year. I look forward to working with you and your child!
