HONORS PHILOSOPHY
GREENOCKLE
RECOMMENDED SUMMER READING

Honors Philosophy is designed on a Socratic Seminar Model– discussion and questioning “the important questions of existence and reality.” To foster this, there are various works of literature we will be reading throughout the year.
To create an appropriate foundation of understanding, I suggest reading as many of these additional works as you can during the summer. These will not be read during the year but will act as a supplement.
Reading one of the below is mandatory.
You should be able to articulate the themes evident and be able to bring questions and discussions to class. All other works are optional. You will not be displeased–they are fantastic and essential for your Gifted Education.
Honors Philosophy Summer Reading Recommendations:
Ishmael, Daniel Quinn
Fahrenheit 451, Ray Bradbury
Lord of the Flies, William Golding
Brave New World, Aldous Huxley
1984, George Orwell
