$20,000 PA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TARGETED PROGRAM GRANT FOR ALICE ACTIVE SHOOTER GRANT AND TRAINING
Council Rock School District was recently named a recipient of a Pennsylvania Department of Education 2018-2019 Safe Schools Targeted Program Grant totaling $20,000. The district will use the funding to train the entire CR staff on the ALICE active shooter prevention method. Full district training will take place on February 15th, Council Rock's next professional development day. A School Safety Community Forum is scheduled for Tuesday, March 19th. Details regarding time and place are forthcoming. The forum will provide the CR school community with a comprehensive overview of the ALICE active shooter prevention method and updates on other pertinent CR safety initiatives underway.
$25,000 PCCD / ACT 44 MERITORIOUS GRANT FOR INTERIOR DOOR LOCKS
Council Rock School District was awarded $25,000 in meritorious funding. Funding will be used to update 250 existing classroom doors with interior deadbolt locks, per the eligible programs and activities spelled out in Act 44, Section 1306-B(j)-12. The interior deadbolt mechanisms permit safe and fast locking of a classroom door and also increases exit time during an emergency. Council Rock School District has already invested in interior deadbolt mechanisms at four of our schools. The $25,000 in funding will allow us to expedite our process by outfitting five schools in quick order rather than addressing one at a time through our general budget.
