END-OF-YEAR LETTER FROM DR. FRASER

Dear CR School Community-

As we get ready to close out the 2018-19 school year, I want to take a few moments to wish our entire community a very happy and safe summer season. This school year has been full of milestones and accomplishments. Yesterday, our Class of 2019 graduated, and we couldn’t be more proud of them. Collectively, they were awarded a total of over $30 million in college scholarship money. They are certainly equipped to accomplish great feats as they begin this next chapter in their lives. Also recently, Council Rock was named a “Great District for Great Teachers.” After undergoing a rigorous competitive process, The National Council on Teacher Quality (NCTQ) confirmed a well-known fact -- Council Rock values great teaching. I am so proud that this award recognizes the tremendous work of our administrators to identify and support great teachers, and of our great teachers themselves.

As a community, we came together this school year to develop a redistricting plan that will go into effect in September. On June 12th, as part of K-5 Move-Up Day, our elementary schools held a second round of visitation activities to further welcome redistricted students to their new schools. Approximately 700 students were bused to their new redistricting school where they enjoyed getting-to-know-you activities and student-to-student welcome letters. Redistricting transition activities will continue to occur in coming months. I ask that our redistricted families check their email and school website over the summer for transition updates and community-building information.

While summer months are often characterized as laid back or lazy, I can assure you that plenty of exciting work is scheduled to take place in late June, July, and August. Our Strategic Planning Committee Chairs will continue to review and refine action steps related to our three big Strategic Plan goal areas of Student Wellness, Redefining Student Success, and School Safety and Security. I look forward to sharing these action steps with you once a draft version of our plan is developed. While this new plan will importantly emphasize the wellness of our students in a holistic fashion, we know that through this plan our students will also continue to impress academically. I am proud of the fact that since our last Strategic Plan was implemented three years ago, our students have earned the highest Advanced Placement (AP), SAT, and ACT scores in the impressive history of our District.

Our Facilities Department will also be busy in coming months as they focus on various summer projects designed to improve and secure our buildings. Multiple elementary schools will see playground repairs occur. Both high schools will receive new stage curtains in their auditorium spaces. Many of our buildings will have interior door locking mechanisms installed so that classrooms may be easily and safely locked from the inside. Also, all of our schools will open the 2019-20 school year with new intercom systems and secured entry vestibules in order to strengthen building access safety.

In other summer project news, our Facilities Department will also focus their attention on our two elementary school renovation projects underway. The renovation to Wrightstown Elementary School will be completed over the summer. Also during the summer, the former Richboro Middle School will be thoroughly prepared for Rolling Hills Elementary School students and staff, who will reside there in 2019-20 while their building undergoes renovation.

The 2018-19 school year has been an exciting one. I am energized by the strategic planning work that began this year. I want to thank our Strategic Planning Steering Team who came together to assess that which makes us great and identify that which will make us even better. We have wonderful work ahead of us in 2019-20, with countless new Council Rock School District milestones and accomplishments to celebrate as a school community.

In the meantime, my very best wishes for a wonderful – and dare I say even laid back or lazy - summer 2019!

Sincerely,

Dr. Robert Fraser

Superintendent
